Spring 2020: STEAM Girls Goes Virtual

Due to events surrounding COVID-19, we were unable hold our regular STEAM Girls after-school program. However, thanks to platforms such as Zoom and YouTube (Check out our STEAM Girls channel!), we found fun ways to conduct activities remotely.

Here's a recap of some of the skills we learned:
Week 1: We learned how to draw flowers using math and how to make an 'I miss you' card using coding
Week 2: We baked healthy banana treats,  created lava lamps using chemistry, and mastered 3 important Python skills
Week 3: We explored examples of infinity in nature and programmed animated stories with Scratch
Week 4: We made an interactive guessing game using Python, erupted volcanoes using Earth chemistry, and learned about nutrition while making delicious desserts

Be sure to look through the gallery to see some of the projects the STEAM Girls created!

LilyPad Arduino
Girls learned about electronics, circuitry and programming using LilyPad Arduino technology. Each camper crafted her own project to take home, creating amazing wearable technology, musical boxes, interactive temperature censors, and much more!
Picture
Lego Robotics
Using Lego Mindstorms sets, campers learned to assemble and program robots to preform real tasks. Our robots did everything from distributing cookies, to modeling the newest wearable tech, to preforming intricate dance routines alongside our very enthusiastic gymnasts.

Programming with Processing
Our campers harnessed the power of Processing to create amazing interactive generative art and some sweet 2-D Pong games, all while learning the basics of programming in Java and mastering core concepts such as variables, loops, and conditionals.
